New regulation will enable Renewable Energy Zones to connect

On 13 December 2024, the Electricity Infrastructure Investment Regulation 2021 was amended by the 'Electricity Infrastructure Investment Amendment (Functions) Regulation 2024'.

The Regulation will work with Chapter 9A:Modification of the National Electricity Rules in NSW.

These regulations, known as the Interface Regulations, allow authorised network operators to carry out network infrastructure projects as registered Transmission Network Service Providers in NSW and enable the operation of renewable energy zone (REZ) access schemes.

The Interface Regulations also set network planning responsibilities for the network operator and Infrastructure Planner and address related economic regulation and administrative matters, including to align compliance regimes with the national framework.
