Waratah Super Battery planning approval bolsters secure energy future for NSW
On 23 February 2023, the NSW Government granted planning approval for the construction and operation of the Waratah Super Battery project, which will bolster energy system security following the closure of the Eraring coal-fired power station.
Planning approval follows a consultation process with local communities and stakeholders, and includes a range of measures to address potential environmental impacts, as part of the preparation of an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) under the State’s Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979.
The EIS was publicly exhibited between 11 November and 8 December 2022 on the Department of Planning and Environment’s major projects website.
