Declaring the South West Renewable Energy Zone
The NSW Government has begun the process for declaring the South West Renewable Energy Zone (REZ). The declaration is the first step in formalising the REZ under the Electricity Infrastructure Investment Act 2020. It sets out the intended network capacity (size), geographical area (location) and infrastructure that will make up the REZ.
EnergyCo has consulted widely on the indicative zone and used the feedback received to prepare a revised geographic area for the REZ. This geographic area has been used to inform a draft declaration that was exhibited for four weeks in March and April 2022.
EnergyCo is currently considering feedback received during the draft declaration process. Once this feedback has been considered and any necessary updates made, the Minister for Energy will formally declare the South West REZ.
